Kalkan built its reputation on villas. White terraces stacked up a steep hillside, each with a pool, each looking south over open Mediterranean. You rent one, your guests move in, and the wedding happens on the terrace at sunset on the third or fourth evening.

Because the event is not a day here — it is a week. That changes what the wedding feels like. Instead of two hundred people meeting for six hours, thirty people live together for seven days: breakfasts on the terrace, a boat trip on the Tuesday, the ceremony on the Thursday, and nobody rushing to an airport the next morning.

It is the most popular region with British and Irish couples for a reason. Who a villa week suits

• Guest lists between ten and sixty. Above sixty the villa format stops working and you are looking at a hotel, at which point Fethiye or Antalya make more sense.
• Couples who want the days around the wedding to matter. If the plan is fly in Friday, marry Saturday, fly home Sunday, you are paying for a villa week you will not use.
• Anyone who wants an Intimate wedding with everybody at one long table. That is exactly what these terraces are shaped for.

Dalaman, and the two and a half hours after it

Dalaman is the airport, and it is a real drive, roughly two and a half hours to Kalkan along a coast road that is beautiful and slow. This is the one genuine drawback of the region and you should be honest with your guests about it in the save-the-date. Antalya Airport is a similar distance from the other direction and sometimes has better fares.

The drive is not a reason to rule the region out; it is a reason to make sure guests stay several nights rather than two. Nobody minds a long transfer at the start of a week. Everybody minds it at the start of a weekend.

Season, and why the town fills in August

May and June give you long evenings and hills that are still green. September and early October give you warm sea and thinner crowds. July and August are hot and the town is full. The villas are still lovely but the harbour restaurants take planning.

Kalkan is a hillside, which means shade arrives earlier than you expect on the western side and later on the eastern. We check the sun line on your specific terrace against your ceremony time before confirming anything, because a ceremony forty minutes too early is the difference between soft light and squinting.

The villas and what they hold

Villa Lykia is the one most couples picture: six bedrooms, an infinity pool and a terrace that drops away to open sea. Why villa weddings here are almost always symbolic

Villa weddings in this region are almost always symbolic. Couples sign the register at home (a fifteen-minute appointment) and hold the ceremony here with a celebrant, which removes every document requirement on the Turkish side. Before you fall in love with a photograph

Count your guest list before you fall in love with a photograph. Villas here top out in the forties for a seated dinner, and the ones that claim more are usually counting standing room. If your number is comfortably under that, this is the best week-long wedding in Türkiye. If it is not, we will say so and point you somewhere else.
