Practically identical to the UK route, with one difference worth planning around, and that is timing.
The summer bottleneck
The Certificate of Freedom to Marry comes from the Civil Registration Service and the apostille comes from the Department of Foreign Affairs. Both slow down between June and September, which is exactly when most Irish couples are trying to organise an autumn wedding.
Ten weeks is the number we give. Six is what the process nominally takes and it leaves no room for a single delay.
The route most couples take
A registry office appointment at home, then a symbolic ceremony here. No apostilles, no translations, no deadline. The comparison is here and it is not a close call for most people.
The order to do things in
- Notify the Civil Registration Service and get the certificate in motion.
- Order the long-form birth certificate at the same time.
- Apostille both together at the DFA.
- Post to us by tracked mail. We have had exactly one document go missing in ordinary post and it cost three weeks.
- Sworn translation, notarisation, health appointment and registry booking are ours.
Where Irish couples marry
Ölüdeniz and Fethiye take most of it, because Dalaman has strong summer volume from Dublin and Cork and the transfer is an hour.
