What the gemeente issues
The verklaring van huwelijksbevoegdheid is a statement that you are free to marry. Some municipalities issue it in days, others take a month. The apostille is then a separate step. Budget five to seven weeks in total and more in July and August.
The multilingual shortcut
Ask your gemeente for the international (multilingual) version of your birth certificate rather than the Dutch one. It is accepted here without a sworn translation, which saves both time and a notary fee. Not every document has a multilingual equivalent, but the birth certificate does.
