Fethiye & Ölüdeniz

The view here is famous enough to carry a wedding on its own: the lagoon curving into the Mediterranean, the mountain behind it, paragliders drifting down through the ceremony photographs all afternoon.

Why couples choose Fethiye and Ölüdeniz

Because it is easy. That word does a lot of work in destination weddings and it is undervalued. Dalaman is an hour away, the resorts are used to British guests, everyone speaks English, and the wedding you are imagining is one that this region has produced several hundred times before.

Easy does not mean generic. Ölüdeniz has one of the most recognisable landscapes in the Mediterranean and the hillside hotels above it are built around a single view. What you get is a well-worn route to a genuinely spectacular day.

Who Fethiye suits

• British and Irish guest lists between thirty and a hundred and fifty. This is the sweet spot the region was built for.
• Couples who want something between a villa week and a resort weekend. Hotels here are mid-sized, so your party fills one without taking over a five-hundred-room property.
• First-time destination-wedding planners. If the idea of organising abroad makes you nervous, this is the gentlest place to start.

Dalaman, an hour away

Dalaman (DLM) is roughly an hour from Fethiye and a little more to Ölüdeniz. Flight volume from UK regional airports is high through the season, which is worth real money across sixty guests. This is the single strongest argument for the region over Kalkan, which is another ninety minutes down the same road.

The road up to Ölüdeniz from Fethiye climbs and then descends steeply. Coaches manage it easily; a nervous passenger will notice. Mention it in the guest information if you have anyone who would rather sit at the front.

The season, and the Ölüdeniz crowds

May, June, September and October. July and August are hot and Ölüdeniz is busy. The beach in high summer is not the empty crescent in the photographs.

One local factor: paragliders launch from Babadağ from mid-morning until dusk in season. They are part of the appeal and they are also in the sky above your ceremony. Most couples love it; a few do not, and if you are one of them, an evening ceremony after the last landing is the answer.

A lagoon terrace and an olive farm

Ölüdeniz Lagoon Hotel is a terrace ceremony with the lagoon below and paragliders behind the photographs. Fethiye Olive Farm is the opposite in every way: a working farm in the hills, long tables, string lights, no neighbours and no view of the sea at all. If you want a beautiful, straightforward wedding for sixty British guests without a two-and-a-half-hour transfer or a hundred-room resort, book this and spend your planning energy on the parts that will actually change the day: the food, the photographer and the run sheet.
