Çeşme & Alaçatı

Alaçatı is a village of stone houses, blue shutters and courtyards planted with olive trees. A boutique-hotel wedding here needs almost no decoration, which is the whole argument for the region.

Why couples choose Çeşme and Alaçatı

Because they want the Aegean without the scene. Bodrum performs; Alaçatı does not. The village is small enough to walk across in fifteen minutes, the buildings are eighteenth and nineteenth-century stone, and the restaurants are, by common agreement among people who care about this, the best on the coast.

That last point matters more than it sounds. Couples who choose Alaçatı almost always end up building the weekend around food: a long welcome dinner in the village on the Friday, the wedding on the Saturday, and a lazy fish lunch by the water on the Sunday. If the meal is the thing you most want your guests to remember, this is the region.

Who Alaçatı suits

• Twenty to a hundred and twenty guests in courtyards and small hotels, not ballrooms.
• Couples who want the wedding to feel like a very good dinner party rather than a production.
• European guest lists arriving through İzmir, which is an easy, unglamorous, well-connected airport.
• Anyone weighing Bodrum and finding it too polished. These are the two Aegean options and they suit different people.

İzmir, and seventy-five minutes of motorway

İzmir Adnan Menderes (ADB) is about seventy-five minutes away on a good motorway. It takes direct flights from much of Europe in season and connects through İstanbul year-round. The drive is genuinely easy. Dual carriageway most of the way, no mountain road, no surprises.

Alaçatı itself is largely pedestrian in the centre, which is charming and a logistical fact. Coaches stop at the edge and the last two hundred metres are cobbles. Tell your guests to bring shoes they can walk in, and mean it.

May and September, and why not August

May, June, September and early October, as everywhere on this coast. Çeşme has one local variable worth knowing: the wind. Alaçatı is one of Europe's better windsurfing spots for a reason, and the afternoon breeze that makes the bay famous will also lift a tablecloth.

Inland courtyards are sheltered and largely unaffected. Beach decks are not. We choose the venue against your ceremony hour rather than pretending the wind is not there.

Stone courtyards and a wooden deck

Alaçatı Courtyard is stone walls, olive trees and long tables, with twenty rooms on site for the closest guests. It is the definitive version of this region. İzmir consulates make the legal route easier

Why couples arrive here last

Alaçatı is the region couples pick after they have looked at everything else and realised they wanted something quieter. If you found Bodrum's photographs a little glossy and Antalya's a little large, this is probably where you were heading. Go in May or September. August in the village is a different place and not in a good way.
