Bosphorus Yalı
A restored 18th-century waterfront mansion. Ceremony on the water terrace, ships passing behind you.
A yalı is a wooden waterfront mansion built for an Ottoman household to spend the summer in, with its own landing stage on the Bosphorus. Perhaps forty survive in restored condition. This is one of them and it takes weddings.
What it gives you
Scale of a particular kind. The terrace is at water level, so the strait is a metre away rather than a view. Ships pass close enough to read the name. The Asian shore lights up opposite as the ceremony ends. Inside, the rooms are panelled, high-ceilinged and lit by chandeliers that were installed for a different century.
For couples who want the day to feel significant (and that is what İstanbul is for), nothing else in Türkiye is in the same category.
What to know before you book
Music stops at 00:30. There are neighbours on both sides and they are as old and protected as the house. Anyone promising you a later finish on the Bosphorus is not telling the truth.
Guests can arrive by boat from a pier on the other side, which takes fifteen minutes and is the best possible way to begin a wedding. It also depends on the current, which is real and strong in this strait. We have a road plan for every boat plan.
Traffic. Getting a hundred and twenty people to a yalı at 17:00 on a Saturday needs a written transport schedule with honest timings, and we build it around the peak rather than through it.
